KR elimination Volume 2 (2000 SSEi)

Talk about modifications, or anything else associated with performance enhancements. Have a new idea for performance/reliability? Post it here. No idea is stupid! (please use Detailing and Appearance for cosmetic ideas)

KR elimination Volume 2 (2000 SSEi)

Post by Allmachtige »

Subject is a lame joke, but anyway I think we came to the conclusion that a separate thread for my scans would be ideal. I'll still be posting questions/thoughts on 99ssei's thread.

Ok to start off...HP Tuners is an incredibly awesome tool! I've barely scratched the surface and already found more information than I could ever dream of. So lets dig right in shall we?...

Results after a 30 minute drive starting at 7:30pm (10 minute idle before scan started):

CSV and HPL files (these are direct links to my home web server, so if your browser complains of a malicious site please ignore the warnings...trust me, enough people know where I live to come kick my ass if I was some hacker):

http://ente.got-game.org/hptuners/scan_ ... 0pm_01.hpl

After a lengthy phone conversation with PDXGTP we came up with some initial settings to try out one piece at a time. Here is what we (he) came up with:

Disable the EGR
Image

Disable CAT over temp protection
Image

The figures you see set to 36 were set to 136 by Intense, which seemed strange
Image

Misc timing "nullifying"
Image

These aren't changes I'm going to rush into by any means. Tomorrow's morning drive to work (45min) will involve another scan, which I'll get posted around lunch time.

In the meantime I'm all eyes and ears for suggestions.

you need to MAF tune BAD, 11 LTFT is horrible and im not suprized your seeing KR. you want the LTFT's to lock in at 0.0 in PE or WOT.

you are leanish in your WOT numbers. you need to be in the 910-930, but with out a wideband its almost impossible to tell.

the KR decay is lessened because it will fight off the KR quicker, i have mine decreased as well

your Timing is really low as a result of the KR.

Personally i wouldnt disable the EGR untill i was Intercooled. The EGR actually cools the Intake charge.

Yes, but its unmetered air and could give me some results if I test without it for a day or two.

Also unfortunately I didn't opt for the Pro version of the tuner due to a tight budget (which can scan wideband).

Looks like we have very similar problems....for those wanting to follow my thread:
http://www.pontiacbonnevilleclub.com/fo ... &start=200

Why did you disable the EGR and CAT over temp protection?

Just checked my KR Decay vs. RPM (high load) and my numbers are exactly like the graph you posted (my PCM also from Intense). Maybe it was missed in the flash?

My boost controls all look the same as the tables you posted except for boost timer adder TCS off:

I'm surprised at how much boost both you and Ken are making on 3.5 pulleys. At times you guys are only a couple of psi below what I see with my 2.8 (you actually had one line in that scan at 178kPa, I usually see 180kPa on mine)...just shows how much a cam and intercooler affects things.

Ok round 2.

The following is a scan on my way to work under normal driving conditions. Its a 30ish mile drive with country road, highway, and city driving. I started at 7:22am, 69F, and heavy humidity.

CSV and HPL files:

http://ente.got-game.org/hptuners/scan_ ... 2am_02.csv
http://ente.got-game.org/hptuners/scan_ ... 2am_02.hpl

If you look up at my KR, that was just from using the onramp to get on the freeway.

I'd like to try a PE mode drive on my way home tonight. What steps does it require again? I believe just setting the PE to 100 on all values and unplugging the MAF. Anything else?

Nope, that's it. Unplug MAF and set PE to 100.
EDIT: Oh, and reset fuel trim.

Copy your low octane spark table into the high octane one, and don't go WOT while running speed density. Anytime you start seeing the KR ramp up back off, at 14.7:1 AFR you don't have the fuel there to save you. Also, expect the car to run like *shoot* until you tweak the VE table a couple of times.

(x 2) When you start the car for the first time, the RPMs will go up and and down dramatically until it levels off at an idle speed it likes. Just warning you now, you may stall once or twice. Don't worry, it's the computer trying to figure out how to calculate A/F without the MAF sensor. Once the RPMs stabilize, start your scan.

Yes, you should copy your high octane to your low. Good catch!

Please verify the calibration paths so I don't mess anything up.

I believe I found the High and Low Octane tables: Engine > Spark Control > Spark Advance > Under 'Main Spark Advance'.

I thought I found where I change the PE values but lost it. :???:
Also where do I reset the fuel trims? Do I do this after I "Write Calibration"?

Thanks guys.

Please read this entire thing in detail before you start changing anything. I ended up reading it 2 times then again after I had been working with the tuner for a while. You've got the right people subscribed to the thread but you have some homework to do first :)

I have read in multiple times over and I have a habit of asking questions even if I know answers. Working in IT makes me want everything in writing.

EDIT: So I get everything ready. From what I read I write the calibration during KEY ON, but do I reset the fuel trims during KEY ON or when the engine is actually running? I'm going to assume KEY ON.

Gah I made my first MAF adjustment and now KR is through the roof. I'm talking up to 8!!!!!

Results from drive to work this morning:

Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

Changes I made:

CAT Protection raised from 158 to 258:
Image

General increase in MAF curve:
Image

Spark limiter increased from 6200 to 7000:
Image

Files:
http://ente.got-game.org/hptuners/SDsca ... FON_04.csv
http://ente.got-game.org/hptuners/SDsca ... FON_04.hpl

My high octane table is still copied over my low octane table...should I be restoring the low octane table back to what it originally was for MAF table changes? *fook*, its like I'm going backwards now.

I left my High/Low octane tables the same after the change. Did you do your VE tables first? I didn't see any postings regarding them. Your LTFTs should be +/-5 on the VE table and +/-3 on the MAF calibration.
