CV Axle Rebuilders

Post by teleplayer »

I have a ripped boot on my LH axle, and since it's got a lot of miles on it, I wanted to replace it. From some research I found out that the supercharged version of the '92 has different axles than the non-supercharged. I don't know the exact difference but it is beefier or has bigger joints, or something. But if you just get a reman axle, you get the regular old run of the mill axle because the part numbers have been consolidated and the axle will still fit, and work.

I also found out that these "new" axles that are sold for $50 -$60 are crap made in China. No thanks.

So I was thinking of having my axles rebuilt by a reputable company. One place I have located is called CV of Ocala (FL). They claim to use all new parts, etc. Has anyone used them, or does anyone have other resouces for axle rebuilding?

Thanks !!!

Ok so I am answering my own post. I sent my axle via UPS to a place called ARC remanufacturing co. in Astoria, NY. They received it at 10AM on Tuesday and let me know they were done with it at 3pm. They shipped that same day and I had it back on Wednesday, UPS Ground. Amazing service. The axle looks great, I'm sure it will perform just fine. The cost was $78.00 including shipping back to me. I know you can get a reman axle for less, but at least I know it's not a fix-up of some worn out axle.

Good work!

EDIT: Found some people using the China axle for a while with no problems, so I'll have to change this to both are alternatives.

FWIW, I've never had a CV joint failure, but I baby my cars. Most wear occurs while turning corners, I make it a habit of laying off the gas while turning, can't always do that and remain safe in traffic of course, but this is another instance where a ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. But, I suppose I rob myself of some fun... :)
But, unless you are extreme, the China rebuilds will probably outlast the car, at least up here in the north where rust usually dooms them. I would have no issue whatsoever using them, and I've never heard anything bad about them. Just my 2 cents worth. Mike
