found out today that I need a new cat installed in my 1999 SE.
can someone help me with the part number that I can order part from from www.justmagnaflow.com
sources tell me that a shop will install this for about $60.00? Has this been your experience?
The shop I usually take my care to quoted me $750.00 parts and labor for GM parts and
$450.00 for non GM parts and labor...
Sounds like I need to find a new shop! Sheesh!
Help me out if you can.....

Before you buy one make sure you have a shop that will install it. Some shops won't do work with parts they don't get the mark up on.

Have you checked out Eastern Catalytic Direct-Fit Converters from Rock Auto?
Might be cheaper and easier in the long run. Not Magnaflow but advertised as high flow.

I just realized you're in EPA-central, my home state of Callyfornia.
Some shops may NOT work with you on this. Tell them straight up you bought the cat from a reputable online dealer that knows they are CA legal, but ONLY if they ask. Be very specific about this. I know things are tricky in CA. Don't volunteer info, but give that to them if asked.
It's probably best if you ask around with friends/family to see if someone has a shop they can recommend. And when you call, tell them "my cousin told me to call you first" or something to that effect.

Looks from this thread that a certain CARB approved cat is required in CA.

If you don't use CARB stuff now, you'll most likely get busted for it at your next test. New cats will stick out, and then be checked.
