Torque spec for 97 Bonnie's Front Hub/Bearing Axle

Post by StraTact »

Yesterday, I replaced a front hub/bearing and torqued its Hub/Bearing Axle nut to about 110 ft.-lbs., and its 3 Torx mounting bolts to around 105 ft-lbs.

Are these correct?

If you torqued the front wheel hub bearing axle nut to about 110 ft-lbs and the three Torx mounting bolts to around 105 ft-lbs, that’s likely too high for most vehicles — over-torquing can crush the bearings or distort the hub assembly, leading to premature SP550213 bearing failure. Most modern front hub axle nuts typically require between 70–90 ft-lbs, while the mounting bolts are usually around 70–80 ft-lbs (though exact specs vary by make and model). It’s best to check your vehicle’s specific service manual for the correct bearing torque values and re-torque accordingly to ensure proper preload and bearing life.
