HELP ! 2001 - Flooding the engine

Post by Captain Ali »

Hey I need some help please.

The car barely runs and happened all of a sudden. It's flooding like crazy and it barely runs and when it does, it's bogged down and backfires. Please HELP ! I'm stuck.

So what I've found is a P0102 related to the MAF Sensor. Are these codes accurate ?
If so, a new one is no hassle.

I have an 01 & a 02. The 2001 is spitting the 0102 code.

Thanks. -Rich

MAF does seem like a probable culprit. Swap them between cars and see if the issue follows it around.

I was going in that direction too.

I'll swap them like you said and see what happens then I'll post the results.

Thanks for this.

I do have a question about removal.

There are torx head screws hold the sensor in, but there is a center stem on the screws. A normal torx head won't fit.

There must be a special tool to use or do you have a work around to get the screws out ?

Thanks,
Rich

I think those are called security torx. There are bits or screwdrivers for them.

Hey so in the '01 I replaced the MAF Sensor with a new one and it's running like a champ now.

I watched aYou Tube video on how to clean the sensor using MAF Sensor cleaner.
so now I'll clean the sensor on the '02 and slap it back in to see if it corrects it or not.
I have a scanner but it's a lousy one.

Now I have two sensors to check for operation after cleaning. The '02 was spitting codes related to generic multiple misfires.

Thank you for your help. I want to keep the thread active since both vehicles were experiencing similar issues.

Thank you again,
Rich

They're called tamper-proof torx bits. I bought a set to have on hand when I picked up the new sensor at O'Reilly's.
