I'm trying to have the headliner replaced in this SE.
Is there an easy way to determine if the sunroof is OEM or not ?
I stripped the headliner fabric down and ate a bunch of disintegrated cloth, glue and debris fun fun.
The headliner board does not look like it's been hacked up to fit (not 100% though).
Thanks in advance.

Re: 02 Bonneville SE Sunroof/Headliner Question
OEM sunroof switch is integrated into the upper console.
OEM sunroof has the edges of the roof panel rolled over. The rubber seal around the glass seals up against the painted surface of the roof panel. Aftermarket sunroofs would have an additional seal.

Just as a gee-whiz interestment, my brother-in-law is a long-time engineer for a company that built interiors on many cars including Bonnevilles. They told GM the glue they wanted to use was crap, but GM made them use it anyway.

Re: 02 Bonneville SE Sunroof/Headliner Question
The glue isn't the problem at all. It's the foam backing on the headliner material, it turns to powder. Same thing as when you rip up old carpet and the pad has turned to dust. There is no simple solution, any glue that you try to stick to dust will not hold. Options are to either pin it up or completely recover it with new material.Sirius wrote:Just as a gee-whiz interestment, my brother-in-law is a long-time engineer for a company that built interiors on many cars including Bonnevilles. Re: 02 Bonneville SE Sunroof/Headliner Question
I've deduced the sunroof is aftermarket. The controller is not integrated into the overhead accessory panel.
I can see where the headboard has been butchered to make room, and the controller is a small 4 function switch.
So what I want to do is track down a full length headboard and install it so the sunroof is covered over by the headliner.
This car is a runner, it has a few issues that I am correcting as I go along. I did do a headliner replacement in the 96 SE and it came out mint. 2 weeks later the TCC solenoid crapped out, so that's on the backburner for the time being.
I have the '00 also and it has an issue staying running and spitting out codes. I can deal with it.
This headliner is a pain in the ass. I took down the old fabric and got covered in that *shoot*. Me eyes, everywhere. What a mess it was.
