Hey All,
Does anyone have any experience with CV axles (rebuilt) from Detroit Axle? I can't find a set or a set that I trust in any of the parts stores and GM discontinued the ones for my 01 SSei.
I understand that the DA rebuilt ones use OE parts in their rebuilds.....
I've heard some horror stories about some of the after market manufacturers of CV axles....... Some of these after market parts are pure junk that might serve to help you limp back home after a breakdown on the road but that's about the extent of their lifespan....just thought a rebuild using GM parts might be better than some of these others.

Re: CV Axles
I've tried a number of different axles and from what I've seen others experience they are all pretty much garbage.
My boot tore on my passenger axle years ago. I should have replaced the boot rather than the axle. I've put two new axles on since then and always have boots split on me quickly and weird vibration on acceleration issues.

I've heard the same thing about aftermarket and tried to get OEM boots but could only find them for the inner joint... Apparently GM has stopped manufacturing the outer ones so I was more or less forced to look for other options. I'll keep my originals just in case I get vibration out of the rebuilt ones....but they assured me that they are GM axles AND parts that they use.....We shall see.

https://driveshaftshop.com/ can also rebuild your axles. I found an OEM axle on car-part.com and shipped it to them to rebuild. I can't remember the price point but it's an option.

Thanks for the link 95naSTA.... Every option is appreciated. These cars are beginning to suffer from OEM part availability....in my experience that usually means less quality.95naSTA wrote:https://driveshaftshop.com/ can also rebuild your axles. I say that from experience in auditing auto suppliers for many years. It was common to walk into a plant producing OEM parts and find another line producing the aftermarket part.....problem was, the OEM line was subject to strict quality control as compared to the aftermarket ones....failure rates were significantly higher on the aftermarket line either due to sub quality components used in assembly or simply lower control limits on control plans.....
Re: CV Axles
If you or anyone still need these go to NAPA and get the OEM rebuilds...dont get any of the new aftermarkets. I made the mistake of turning in my originals for the core...should have kept them as a spare until finding a good local shop to rebuild them also.
