Remove button array and steering wheel

Post by NoShowCar »

Urgent need to remove steering wheel on SSE with 10 button radio controls. I've removed all the buttons looking for fasteners which might hold it together. No joy. The horn buttons don't seem to be hiding any. Must get to steering shaft nut to remove wheel.
Project is to remove and inspect or replace the ign lock cylinder, or if necessary, the ign switch itself.
The complaint is intermittent no start or run, but cranks just fine. Jiggling the key will sometimes get it to fire and run normally. Most of the time it starts and runs normally although the key is hard to turn frequently. I have no idea what the key code is to get a new unworn key cut.
The factory manual is no help at all. Doesn't even cover this steering wheel.
No fasteners visible behind leather covered wheel.
Reading other post, suggests prying the button set off with a dull knife. Where do you insert the blade? I haven't broken anything yet, but I really don't want to. Have you priced replacements for these parts?

That other post suggest prying from the top edge with a dull knife and the entire button pod comes out as an assembly.
