Project leather seats

Post by haro1225 »

So as some here have seen, my GTO suffers from the infamous splitting of the seat seams. As the cars age and are exposed to the sun the leather shrinks and the seams split, exposing the foam inside and just looks bad. After looking around at potential options for new seats including Recaros from an evo or maybe some 6th gen Camaro seats a friend recommended a website that makes custom covers so I went that route.

Here's what I started with

This guy wanted to help but was useless

After I removed the cat I took the seats apart and removed the old leather.

I ended up with this. (According to the website and some reviews, the leather will shrink some with the heat from the sun.)

To change things up some and to go with the Holden theme I got the Monaro logo on them. Also with blue stitching for the seams.

Overall I'm happy with how they turned out. Now I just have to wait till I have time to go put them back in the car.

Looks good.

You may want to try manipulating the leather with a clothes steamer to smooth it out. They're pretty cheap and have a few other automotive uses.

Lseat.com
They took about a month and were initially quick to reply but I never got a shipping confirmation. They just showed up the other day.

Yeah, that sounds familiar. I made a rather large order a few weeks ago for something I may report on here later. They were supposed to send me an email with shipping details and the delivery driver was supposed to call just before delivering. The stinkin' thing just showed up one day last week. Fortunately I'd mentioned to the guys at the delivery point (needed a forklift to get it off the truck, so no delivery to my house) that I was ordering this thing and would have it dropped with them so when it showed up they weren't completely blindsided. Not a big deal, really, but would have been nice to know it would be here on a certain day.

I put the seats back in the car. Tried to get pictures but it was too dark where the car is. I will however update with finished pictures next week when I bring the car out for the season.

Car is out and seats look good. The stitching on the seats matches the shifter boot pretty well.
