92 Bonneville SSEI throttle body

I decided to check my throttle body gasket for coolant leaking. Took the TB off to find a thick plastic gasket with rubber 'impregnated' seals and metal stoppers. Upon inspection the gasket looked intact but a little flat. So I opted to grind those metal stops to squeeze that gasket just a bit tighter. I knew i was playing with fire, yet I cranked it down too hard and broke a mounting tab off the TB itself. I have a throttle body from a 94 Bonneville SSEI rigged up on it now with the coolant just a spilling out the bottom. They're different size TBs. What I'm gonna do is find a junkyard TB from a 92-94 L27 lesabre, 88, etc. Am I on the right track yet? Ive had trouble finding 92-93 L67 parts.

I was thinking the L27 TB was different, but maybe not. The gasket appears to be the same for L67 and L27.

I've reused the original TB gasket a few times. You probably should have just left it alone if you didn't see anything leaking. It's not a super common leak point for the early L67.

Thanks J Wikoff. I had installed and calibrated a new TPS, and had planned to replace the gasket for good measure. Both times I went to the parts store for a gasket I got the bigger 94 gasket. I believe i should have waited for the right gasket. So i actually ordered a used TB from eBay for 20 some dollars. Im under the impression that ill need to use my L67 maf sensor?

Yes, use the 92 MAF sensor. Maybe give the elements a gentle q-tip cleaning with some throttle body cleaner spray.

You think i should go ahead and replace the IAC? Or just clean it? Also, I've seen pictures of willwren porting these babies. Id like to talk to the man himself. Do you recommend?

The IAC usually isn't problematic. It's easy to get to, so I'd wait until it has issues before spending money on it.

Willwren hasn't been around in several years. He did good work, but he probably won't respond to messages.

I would clean the iac first and see if it improves. But I would liberally spray(with iac cleaner) the filament and not touch it for fear of damaging the filament

Are you guys saying that i can remove the IAC without removing the throttle body itself? I dont know the trick to getting those Philips screws out of there. I would take a hammer and tap the bit onto the screw head. I just don't want to crack another TB if i don't have to

Is it access to the screw, or getting them to turn?

I remember using an offset or stubby screw driver, and it worked fine.

I think i have to take the thermostat housing off to reach the TPS for adjustment. In the past, at junkyard ive stripped many of Philips screws trying to pull a maf sensor for these cars. I just don't wanna get the new TB on, to have to take it back off to replace an IAC

So I received my throttle body from the naturally aspirated engine. The bodies are identical. I cleaned the eBay part. Swapped over my sensors from the L67. I used high temp rtv on the O ring of the maf sensor and IAC. Mated with a brand new gasket, she purrs like a kitty.
