Car is 2003 SSEi — It’s a random occurrence. Will be driving on the highway and it’ll ping (can hear it and use premium gas). Sometimes it will happen after hard acceleration, but I reiterate, happens random and not often. Thinking a faulty ignition module but no codes thrown. Wondering if the ECM/PCM could be at fault here. I posted another topic in performance asking where I could take/send it to be tested to make sure all is in working order and everything is within specifications.
Any and all help appreciated. God bless and happy holidays.

Yes those modules could be at fault.rynmcdonald wrote:Car is 2003 SSEi — It’s a random occurrence. Will be driving on the highway and it’ll ping (can hear it and use premium gas). I'd recommend you have it tested by somebody who knows what they are doing, a multimeter isn't always enough unfortunately to work on those computers. Or just do a swap, should you find a decent deal.
Many family owned auto shops i'm sure would be capable of both.

Aren’t parts on the vehicle specific to the computer? I changed a gauge cluster in my father's 2005 Sierra. It worked, but it stated it didn’t match the computer or something.
Hope that won’t happen if I get another ECM/PCM.

Does your tachometer ever act erratically? That usually points to a bad crankshaft position sensor which is not an uncommon problem on the 3800.

Never seen it do that since I have owned it. Exception being when a wire from the EGR grounded out. Caused loss of power and made some of my gauges go berserk. Short of that, no.
