Rear Shocks

Post by syclonegs2003 »

I know most here recommend Monroe MA822 or KYB 1002 shocks.. Which of the two have the most compliant (softest) ride characteristics?

The Monroes are a little softer, but they didn't last very long for me. Maybe a year or so.

Make sure you get the line kit so you can splice the lines in.

In the end I went for the Monroe kit that deletes the air ride and they ride just like OEM.

want a softer ride, get touring tires or lower tire pressure by 5 lbs

There are multiple options out there. I installed these last September. About 25k miles on them now and they still feel good and are quiet.

I also run my tires at the recommend 30 psi for that nice floaty feeling lol

I tried the coil overs last year but it made the back end of my 2002 SSEI way too high...Didn't like the look.. It did have a softer ride though. The MA822 on now have been on for 2 years and are now riding very harsh and banging over bumps...I use the manual airline kit to the rear shocks so I can vary the air pressure.. I have it set at 2-3 psi..for best ride..Using the OEM load leveling air hook up, It rides really bouncy and harsh...with Air pressure about 12 psi.
