Fall 2020

Post by MattStrike »

This year we went up to Sault Ste. Marie to start off the color tour. It was a bit of a wildcard this year since the fall colors were running weeks ahead and we were already booked for the night way in advance, but thanks to those who came and the location/drive, it was another memorable experience!

Arrival - Friday evening only slightly behind schedule:

This was the view for the night:

Next morning we headed out to what has been the most scenic 35 miles of my life.

We followed a stretch of Lakeshore Dr. along Lake Superior, then headed down to the tunnel of trees. I did not manage to get many pictures of this part because I was using both hands to drive for the most part, but it was amazing to hit up the road less traveled again north of the normal route. We finally did stop where there was sufficient space to not block traffic:

How was the temperature in the UP? I like the drive up to the Soo. Did you take US23 up or the interstate?

We drove up the interstate Friday evening. I was outside at 3am that night in sandals and shorts and a tee shirt (barely tolerable lol) to get the last ship picture. It was surprisingly warm.

That water looks so cold to me, even though it's probably near it's warmest this time of year. There's a reason Superior isn't the waterski capitol of the world (notwithstanding the chop).
