92 Bonneville push to start

Post by 91 GMC man »

I am reaching out to the forum today

In the vehicle I recently bought there seems to be an aftermarket system installed you turn the key to the run position and push a giant button on the dash to start the car I personally don't like it looking for more information on this

As well my radio doesn't keep its presets

because coming out of that 15 amp plug is two wires the wires are fused afterwards but I can't exactly figure out where they go it appears that one of them might go to the starter but I don't know I'll attach some pictures

Hopefully this work here's a link

Sounds like somebody who didn't know anything about wiring diagnostics bypassed something to make the starter work...

First thing you need to do is get ahold of the wiring schematic for the starting circuit and radio circuits. Delete all that crap and put a fuse back into #11 to fix the radio issue. Then figure out what failed in the starting circuit. Use a voltmeter to find out what component isn't working and fix it. Start with +12v to the ignition switch, +12v out of it during cranking, I think it goes through the neutral safety switch next, and finally to the starter.

Thanks I will but from my quick testing the other day it would still start with a feuse in 11 and thoes wires out

Will take some work but I intend to remove the button and add remote start cause I have one laying around hopefully won't be to hard

She needs a bit of love but for 800 I can't complain

The service manual from GM is the best manual you can buy. It has everything in it.

Thanks I was thinking of just grabbing it the 3-pack it's not that expensive

Thanks for your advice

Today's plan that the battery charge after being jump-started and take it to her Canadian store called Canadian Tire

That chain is stores will test a battery for free so I can eliminate whether or not I got a crap battery draining

In that photo there's the two leads coming out of it for now couldn't I just shove a 15 amp fuse in over top of those wires until I get a chance to figure out what the hell is going on
