1997 Non electronic climate control blower issue

Post by Merrillspontiac »

Over the past few days the blower motor on my 97 Olds 88 will intermittently not work and will not make any sounds. If I tap on the dashboard it will come right on and all speeds will properly work. Would this most likely be a bad blower motor?

It could be the motor, especially if it's noisy when it runs. That's where I'd start, replaced a lot of them. I'm not familiar with your olds, but it could also be the connections behind the fan knob, fuse block, motor, or resistor pack which on my car would be inside the airbox under the hood, screwed in from the top. That resistor pack probably doesn't need replaced since all your fan speeds work, but i've seen the plug on top of it burn up.

This is my experience:
77 Chevy K20 - bad blower motor
80 Steiger (same as a corvette) - burned resistor pack (x3-4)
86 Pontiac 6000 - burned plug on the resistor pack
90 Chevy C70 - bad blower motor
93 Bonneville - bad blower controller module x2
96 Chevy 6500 - bad blower motor
98 Chevy 2500 - bad blower motor
12 Chevy Colorado - bad blower motor

They're all working now aside from the '77 that i sold for scrap...with a pretty new blower motor
