PO741 Code

Post by cougarcat454 »

Just thought I would check in here in regards to the service engine light being on. Got code PO741 when I checked it.

Looks like it could be a bad Torque Converter Lock up Solenoid. This is in a 2005 GXP.
I had this problem in an earlier generation bonneville that I owned. They replaced that part and it took care of the problem.

This is my daughters car. I asked if she noticed any drive ability problems. She said no.

If I recall on my older model the torque converter would come out of lock up, mostly on small inclines etc.. it would cause the car to feel like it was misfiring or studdering, but it was just a change in rpms as it went in and out of lock up.

Just wondered if anyone else has dealt with this particular code/problem.

Thanks.

Thanks for the link. I am with you.I don't think that guy needed a whole new transmission.

Anyway I called the local transmission shop. He said if the solenoid needs replaced, should go ahead and replace a few other items while it is apart.
He quoted me a ball park price of $900.00. He said they would of course need to diagnose it first. But he thinks it is probably the TCC Solenoid.

Might check with my local shop and see what they say.

Thanks again for the link.

When I had that same code with my GXP, I called a number of specialty transmission shops in my area to inquire about getting it fixed. They all stated that the transmission had to be removed from the vehicle, and rebuilt or replaced, because there was only the one code stored. Not sure why that was the determining factor...

Good luck with yours! :)
