Chime issue

Post by kc9dre »

A few months ago the Display and the Chimes of the factory head unit quit working. Audio from the radio is good minus the left door speaker...

Thinking that it was the head unit itself, I swapped in my Android head unit from my Yukon into the Bonneville ( I kinda wanted to do this anyway) The chimes worked in the Yukon, but in the Bonneville they do not. So I am not troubleshooting this minor issue.

I have not done anything yet but determine that I have no audio from the driver door. Its been too *dang* hot to spend hours out there under the dash...

Oddly enough I do have Onstar audio if I push the button and i did check the module's volume for the chime.

Am I overlooking something simple like a fuse? Or do I start toning out wires looking for breaks?

On another note why does a 2003 have a "reverse" wire feeding into the factory radio? I noticed this and connected it to my head unit and when I shift into reverse it activates the backup cam it it was installed that is... This was barely thought of at the time the car was manufactured... And thought it was interesting...

my head unit also has 2 direct inputs for steering wheel controls that measures resistance to determine the button, is there a connection to the harness that I can tie these into or do I still need the steering wheel control module (yukon does not have steering wheel controls so I did not have this module

The chime comes through the left front speaker. If the speaker is not working there will be no chime.

There is no reverse lamp/backup feed into the factory radio. My best guess is that a previous owner added it, perhaps to use with a head unit that they took out before selling the car. I've done extensive work with the wiring in these cars, including the instrument panel wiring harness and audio system. I have never found this signal on any Bonneville I've ever worked on.
