Front / rear struts and shocks
Hey Guys got a 2000 3.8 that needs struts and the rear shocks are probably toast too? I don't hear the compressor kick on when i get inside the trunk etc, and it's really bouncy
otherwise, I tried to pull the relay out of the box up front, but it seemed stuck, as did others i tried too? Is there a certain way they come out? I usually just pull them and they come right out in other cars.I need to check for power at the compressor first also, I thought i read there's a button in the trunk to push to turn compressor on? I couldn't find it in my car? Also on the front's ive read about the complete units being taller then just replacing the strut itself, anyone used these? GABRIEL G57051, Do they also increase ride height?
Thanks!

This tool makes removal easier
https://www.amazon.com/ABN-Puller-Remov ... B0195PCN7S
No, there's no trunk switch to turn the compressor on for the shocks to inflate.
Check the wiring, as it may have broken or the connector corroded over the years.
On the SSEi there is a fitting for a hose at the edge of the trunk, so you can inflate the tires...... at a snail's pace.

Re: Front / rear struts and shocks
Thanks for the reply! So I checked the connector with car running and unplugged , and I have power at one of the prongs, looks like the green wire? So I’m thinking compressor is toast? And looks like a bitch to replace etc where it’s at, next option just get some Gabriel high jackers and run new lines?

Re: Front / rear struts and shocks
So I've got a po300 code and when i had the key on today after hooking scanner up i heard the compressor, so that means its probably ok? And I can just put new shocks back in?

Re: Front / rear struts and shocks
Those eBay shocks will make the car ride high. I'd go with ACDelco stuff or KYB. They are tried and true.
P0300 is a multiple random misfire code and is unrelated to your rear suspension.

Thanks! What bout those Gabriel’s I listed above? The only reason I brought up the p300 code is cause I was using scan tool yesterday n that’s when I heard the compressor lol, I’d never heard it before so I thought it was *shoot*.nos4blood70 wrote:Those eBay shocks will make the car ride high. Re: Front / rear struts and shocks
This is a dumb question that I can't find the answer to after lots of searching - do ALL 00-05 Bonnevilles have rear air shocks? Or just the SLE/SSEI? I have an 03 that I am shopping for rear shocks, and all that is available is air shocks.
Re: Front / rear struts and shocks
All 2000-2005 Bonneville's came factory with rear air-ride

Re: Front / rear struts and shocks
What's a GOOD quick strut for the front of our cars? I don't care if sets a little high, i know they settle, just don't want to waste my money on junk cheap ones

Re: Front / rear struts and shocks
No good quick struts for our cars. They all make the car ride goofy high and will not settle. Reason being is the extra coil quick struts have in the springs.

Re: Front / rear struts and shocks
How hard is it to compress that coil, I've got a internal compressor, not sure if it can be used as a external one? Install strut in vise and loosen top nut after compressing? So i ordered the Kyb strut, The moog upper mount and the kyb lower isolator, that should be it correct?nos4blood70 wrote:No good quick struts for our cars. Re: Front / rear struts and shocks
Pretty much. It's an easy process with either spring compressors or the wall mounted vice kind. Just take your time and be careful!
