ZZP Gear Ratio Conversion Kit, thoughts?
I came across ZZP's gear ratio conversion kit and was wondering if anyone has done it. I couldnt find any mention of it and I recently came across it. The reviews are good. Adds more torque to the car and produces good launch from what I've read. Also heard that changing to a higher gear ratio like that would make gas mileage worse, afterall its only got 4 gears. So if thats true and gas mileage takes a significant hit, would be a terrible fit for my daily drive. Also would love to know how difficult the job would be to do it.

It's not worth it on a daily driver. ZZP's kit is basically all parts you can get at a junkyard, plus maybe some gaskets and stuff.
Yes, your fuel mileage would drop, because it's putting a lower ratio (higher number) gear into your car. It makes your 2.93 final drive ratio a 3.29 final drive ratio. Better for your launch, but increases engine RPM at any given MPH.

I currently have 3.29s in mine. I am heavily modded but I am still getting 16-18 at 55 to 60mph average.

As Ed said, this is stuff you can get from the junk yard, but even then I don't know if I would call the effort or time worth it.
You can do other mods that would increase both power and fuel efficiency, providing you keep your foot out of it...

I see. Well thats too bad. i mean its already very torqy as it is. Just sounded cool when I thought about it. But yea that hit in the fuel economy would hurt. I get about 20 average and i drive 52 mile round trip to and from work everyday.

Axle ratio isn't going to have a huge impact on fuel economy driving around the city and on a normal commute. Depending on what kind of driving you do, because it will get into 4th gear sooner, you might actually get better mileage. But freeway mileage will be where you notice it.
Any engine, the basic power upgrades start with an intake, cam and headers. This usually sacrifices a little torque down low to make more power in the higher revs, and doesn't necessarily need a tune or other supporting mods with stock shift points. On a '92, most of this will have to be custom made. I can't specifically recall if there is an off-the-shelf performance cam for the series 1. Headers from the series 2 will not bolt up (but if you can weld you can hack them up and put series 1 flanges on them). And you are on your own for making a cold air intake.
There are a few options for gaining efficiency from a M62 if you're supercharged: http://www.3800supercharger.net/swaps.html
My go-to advice is always going to be to swap in an entire series 2 (engine, trans, axles, harness and PCM). You have to do some wiring adapters, and change a few misc hoses, but at least you have access to a real aftermarket for performance parts and tuning capability.
