ssei transmission interchange

Post by bkrkkk871216 »

So I been driving my car with no overdrive. I live in town so its not a huge issue but if like to buy a tyranny soon. Its a 2001 ssei. I'm probably going to take the sub frame out and do it that way. But before I take out the tranny out is like to know what parts to get to upgrade the new tranny. No its not new new. Called the junkyard in atwood pa which is rankins junkyard and they said they have a 2001 buick "pau" for $250 plus my old one, I'm mechanically inclined but I have never opened up a transmission. Id just like to know what to upgrade and make it a little stronger. Do i want to put bunch of money in it? Maybe idk yet. Depends how much we are talking. But I saw that the overdrive needs replaced because they discontinued the overdrive because its not a hard metal. But what else should I do to it before I put it in? Thank you in advance! I appreciate anyones input.

Just open it up and put a new 4th clutch hub in it, they are $30 shipped on ebay. While you are in there, replace the PCS, TCS, and shift solenoids. It's a really pretty simple job if you have the instructions. You don't even have to remove the trans from the car, just lower the drivers side of the subframe enough to get the side cover off. I attached the manual in a PDF. There is a lot of pages that you won't even need to reference, just use common sense.

Wow thats crazy! I youtubed somebody doing that before you answered my question. And thats what they did. Thats cool man thank you! So I went to auto zone and they said they could not find that part (the hub) thank you for the link. I have seen the shift solenoids. I know what you mean with those but Im going to have to google the pcs and tcs words. Sorry just not familiar with trannys. But I appreciate you helping me man. I forgot about adding this about my Tranny as well...when I make kind of sharp turns in my Boneville it acts like the axle comes out of the Tranny then it goes back in when Im going straight again. Its weird. Another example...say Im pulling out on highway like at my neighbor hood...I hit the gas and turn then pops out of gear then right when Im getting out of the turn it kicks in like I popped the clutch in a manual vehicle then shifts hard as hell to 2nd if Im going easy..then if Im flooring the petal it redlines from 1st to second and stays there for a good 2-2.5 seconds. When I got a free check up on my Tranny they said the solenoids are bad and when I also did a ecm scan it also said "I think" control module was bad and said something _______ shifting. Like rough shifting. Idk I think this tran needs a lot of work and Im supposed to drive this this to west Virginia tonight for work and stay there for weeks? Or months? I took pics of what it all came up ill see if I can send them on here. Thank you in advance.

It sounds like you are loosing pressure as the axles push and pull on the transmission during turns, then as the seal gets back to sealing, pressure rises quick and hits the gear hard. A really good video to watch is the transmission tear down video by Hiram Gutierrez. https://www.youtube.com/user/hiramgutierrez
A temporary fix does not exist. It becomes a solution until it needs to be fixed again.
