CV Axles, what to buy?
CV Axles, what to buy?
After new wheel bearings, inner and outer tie-rods, steering rack, intermediate steering shaft, struts & mounts, and brakes, its time for some new axles. I'm getting the typical shuddering under acceleration, especially when turning, as well as some clicking. The boots seem to be fine, I'm guessing the U-joints have just gone bad. I've been digging through the forum to try and find a clear answer on what is best. AC-Delco's can be bought but are exceedingly expensive 200-240 per side. It seems fairly universally agreed upon to stay away from remanufactured axles, as well as the Advance Auto brand "Carquest". So it seems my options are fairly limited to the Cardone brand, off of RockAuto, or the NAPA brand (that appear to just be Cardone's). Thoughts?

OEM, nothing else. I've dealt with so many junk aftermarket axles.

harofreak00, I was afraid of that. Looks like I can get the left one from Rock Auto and the right one from GM Parts Direct. 198 and 223 respectively.

I've used stock axles past 200,000 miles. Are yours bad?

Re: CV Axles, what to buy?
I couldn't possibly count the number of axles my shop has replaced over the years. Of all the junk aftermarket parts I've delt with, not one bad axle! Most of them Cardone reman.! Having said that, watch me get a bad one today!

I have had good luck with the axles from Detroit Axle.
I have replaced four axles on three different Bonneville's in the last couple of years.
The price is $50.00 with no freight or tax.

Re: CV Axles, what to buy?
Try autozone. They offer Duralast Gold axles.
Re: CV Axles, what to buy?
A lot or remanufactured axles are OEM that where rebuilt... Might try a parts store one with a warranty...
