Is supercharger operating correctly?

Post by Smithw500 »

Hay guys! Got a lot of great help so far with problems on my recently purchased 2000 Bonneville SSEI.
Not sure if I have a problem or not so need some feedback. This is my first factory supercharged car. Had some minor issues that were traced back to vacuum leaks. Stopped at the local GM dealer and found that all the factory formed vacuum lines and rubber connectors are still available for this car so I purchased them figuring they'd be better than aftermarket products. Installed them and the car runs great. Only thing I noticed now is I don't hear the supercharger whine like it did before the new vacuum lines. Boost gauge is still reading correctly and changing as it should based on load and throttle position. Getting up to almost 10psi of boost with full throttle as per the gauge, and the engine sounds real good but no noise I can hear inside the car from the supercharger. Is this normal for this car when it is running properly or is there something I should check or repair?

The stock intake blocks the whine pretty well.

I did see a lot of people saying the aftermarket intakes make the supercharger more noticeable. I guess I'll find out soon. Was thinking about getting the stage II kit from zzp performance that includes the new air box.

10psi is actually higher than stock 7.5 - 8.0 psi. You might not have a stock 3.8" diameter pulley if your actually getting 10 psi.

Well I didn't check it with a real gauge I'm only going by the factory boost gauge on the dash. Just wanted to make sure everything was normal since I didn't hear anything anymore. Read on a previous post that air temp and density have a lot to do with it as well.

ON MY 2000 SSEi, 70 kpa is max which converts to approx 10 psi so I would assume that is normal.

Is that the Max you see on the Gauge? Does you needle actually point at 70 kpa or 10 psi while running?

Well it will point to 10psi briefly under load at full throttle. But then will drop when I let off the throttle.

It should drop when you get off the throttle. It should stay pretty steady at max output when you have the gas floored.
