89 Stalling at idle when stopping at intersections. Pulled code 34 - MAF. Cleaned the MAF as one of the 2 resistors was dirty. Still doing the same.
Is the MAF used in these vehicles only 89-91 or will one from a newer car work as well? My local junkyard only carries 93 and up cars.

Are you sure it's a code 34 MAF and not MAP? The MAP sensor rarely goes bad, but if you have an intake gasket leak, it could set it off.

A temporary fix does not exist. It becomes a solution until it needs to be fixed again.

No MAP, just MAF.

You can usually confirm a broken MAF by tapping the sensor with the handle of a screwdriver. If the car stalls, it's dead for sure.
Rock auto suggests that the MAF is not interchangeable with the L27, only the LN3. However, it is looking like just the sensor is possibly shared with the LG7, which is the 3300 V6, which may also be worth a look.

hi, you can try checking the wires from maf - look for damage
best to buy one thats specific to your ride............

I unhooked the MAF connector and have been driving it for 3 days, no more stalling, only a very slight stutter when you take your foot off the accelerator sometimes at highway speeds.RJolly87 wrote:No MAP, just MAF.

Will look up which vehicles use the 3300 LG7 and pick one up in the junkyard if part numbers match.

nice, keep the rpm below 2500 until you get new maf - buy one specific to your engine for less hastles

That particular MAF was only used from 1988-1991, according to ACDelco, Delphi and Rockauto.
Here are the vehicles that used it http://parts-catalog.acdelco.com/catalo ... ttype=5128
and Rockauto's applications list
Buyer's Guide :
ACDELCO 2133415 Mass Air Flow Sensor
BUICK ELECTRA 1988-1990
BUICK LESABRE 1988-1991
BUICK REATTA 1988-1990
BUICK RIVIERA 1988-1990
OLDSMOBILE 98 1988-1990
OLDSMOBILE DELTA 88 1988-1991
OLDSMOBILE TORONADO 1988-1990
PONTIAC BONNEVILLE 1988-1991
You can also look it up in Delphi's catalog http://partcat.com/delphi

Re: 1989 Bonnevelle stalling at idle - MAF Code 34
Of course, part of the reason for so many different MAF numbers as well as things like Fuel pumps isn't the actual working part that makes it model specific, it's the housing it comes in. For example, I could have rewired the MAF and IAT which were seperate in my 98 Astro and used a 2001 MAF that integrated the IAT sensor into the MAF. The only difference was the plug. The MAF itself functioned the same as the previous years.
Now, I wouldn't necessarily try using a different manufacturers MAF in the car without doing proper research, but in reality, a MAF sensor isn't anything more than an airflow meter. It's a matter of how the auto manufacturer uses the data and how they spec the sensor. GM for the most part uses 12v, Ground, and a 5v sensor for most sensors that require voltage to operate ( O2 sensors, MAF, think along the lines of anything that needs to see a varying output ).
