I've been reading the recommendations on this site for installing the Trans Go shift kit. I've not paid attention.
As my name implies, I've been around a few years. When I was a teen and messing around with muscle cars, a "shift kit" was something you installed to be able to spin the tires when you changed gears with an automatic transmission. There was no implied purpose other than to give stiff shifts, bark the tires, jerk your head back and destroy U-joints! In my '69 Chevelle I frequently barked the tires at 90 MPH coming out of passing gear! It was a head-turner!
With my transmission not moving without accelerating after a full stop, slipping between 2nd and 3rd and in general having to play with the accelerator to get the transmission to change gears once it warmed up, I figured I'd give it a try before paying someone to rebuild my transmission. The final decision was made one day where I checked codes and had a P0741 and a P0742 code on the same day!
The results were incredible. Acceleration is great, shifts are smooth, it pulls better than it ever has! I never thought a $35 investment would bring such remarkable, immediate results.
If you haven't installed one of these shift kits, you will be amazed at the difference. I knew I had some issues, but I don't think my transmission has ever worked this well. All I used were the springs and spacers that you install in the accumulator assembly inside the pan, since I didn't want to drop the subframe and take off the side cover. Great results. I've taken it for a drive twice since I put it all back together.
I highly recommend this project!

Glad you like it! There are shift kits available which will allow for wild tire chirping shifts, but the TransGo is definitely one of those OEM+ type modifications.

Agreed. Being a fossil myself (although not as old a Archon) I had the same perception of "shift kit". I also heard the accolades of the TransGo and Intense kits but blew them off. Then my tranny started shifting really hard and I thought "crap, there goes the transmission". I mentioned this to Dick (Archon) while he was perched atop the mountain, and the Guru suggested trying a shift kit. Following the advice of the wise one I installed said kit and the transformation was amazing. I can vouch for the comments das Oldman made concerning the kit. Even my wife noticed the improvement in the shifting. It is worth the coin and I also recommend it whether you're having transmission issues or not. 'Tis a little messy any time you pull the transmission pan, but next time you change the trans filter, go ahead and drop in one of these kits. You won't be sorry.

I've had Intense's shift kit in my car for well over 10 years. It was not due to a problem. It was mainly to get rid of the sloppy standard shifts. I've been very happy with it. I've installed them in other vehicles, including my son's Grand Prix that had the 1811 code, and banging shifts. I'd recommend it to anyone.

I had the Intense shift kit installed years ago.
During my recent transmission overhaul, a TransGo shift kit was installed.
The torque converter had failed and the input piston was worn out. Total mileage was 45,000 miles.
It shifts fine now but the most noticeable change in shift quality came from programming changes to the fluid pressure.
I couldn't tell the difference between the two kits.
2nd gear starts on wet roads with an LSD is wonderfully entertaining.......
I still prefer the shift quality of my old 350 turbo in my Firebird with the B&M shift kit. It will chirp tires on the shift.
