Power seat travel issue

Post by damadtech »

Been searching and searching on here but haven't found this exact issue listed anywhere. Search = no bueno for me. My 2001 SSEi has a funky driver side seat issue I can't figure out. The seat all of a sudden does not travel far enough forward for my lady to reach the peddles. Now, she is a short little gal but it just ain't going as far forward or back sometimes as it used to. The motor is strong, it moves pretty quick still but stops about 1 1/2" on the tracks from the end going forward. It acts like it hit a stop but not sure if it may be mechanical or internal in the drive assy. I did notice one night when I was sitting in it and the memory tried to break my knees using her remote that it made a weird chattering (for no better description of the noise) when I used the control to move it back, almost like maybe it was slipping as it moved back. Last night, it wouldn't go back as far as I like but seemed to be strong and fast. Is there some procedure for physically adjusting the cable drive system or does it incorporate some type of electrical stop in the motor maybe? Any help in the right direction would be extremely helpful so I don't have to give her a firm pillow and put extenders on the peddles so she can go girly shopping!!!! :hail: If it comes down to her or the car if I can't fix this, I hope she finds someone that takes care of her and buys her nice dresses..........

PS. Full seat power functions including memory crap except no the seat warmers.

hi, I would first clean the tracks and be sure the seat moves freely- I drop change and it sticks in the track

Tracks are spit shined literally, not even dust and there ain't no change in that rascal anywhere, neither under the seat, in the cracks, beside the console etc. - done stole it all for a Sonic Cherry Limeade Slushy during Happy Hour! :beerchug:

I'd try some spray on white lithium grease. PB Blaster makes it and I use it on my sunroof when it goes so far and then does that chatter sound. Pretty sure our seats use a threaded rod mechanism like the one in this video. I'd make sure to goop up that threaded rod with some axle grease. Hope you get it fixed man. I'm right there with you, I'm 6'2" and my wife is 5'2", so my seat memory comes in handy. 1 is all the way back, and 2 is all the way forward.
