Rear View Mirror Adhesive

Post by Jfridge92 »

Yep, the Buick is really starting to show it's age this year. Another thing it added to the list yesterday was chucking the rear view mirror into my lap when I was going around a turn.

Anyways, it's an easy fix, but what have you all used with good luck? I don't feel like re-doing this every few days, and I know some of the rear view mirror kits aren't the best.

Can't advise on the best kit but many years ago when I had the mirror drop problem with a chevy p/u I just took it in to a glass shop to have it reattached. They do this all the time and probably have the best professional grade of adhesives. Can't remember how much they charged me but I doubt the cost would be much more than a kit that may or may not work.

clean mirror mounting surface on windshield and mirror assy mounting pad with acetone. apply 2 drops of Gorilla Super Glue spread randomly with toothpick but not near edge of pad. press in place for 30 seconds. do not move after initial contact with windshield. worked for me and still holding after a year.

Use the Loctite Mirror Glue at the parts store. Follow the directions exactly. My lasted years. It hasn't come off since. The re-glue job has lasted longer than the OEM, I think. Ask Matt Strike. He has the car now. - BC

I gave up on mine, years ago.

I will probably solve the issue by getting another windshield put in eventually.

I wound up getting a Permatex kit from Advance. Got the button installed last night and let it cure over night. I put the mirror back on this morning, so it'll be interesting to see just how long that kit will hold for haha.

I probably won't pay a shop to put it back on. I need a new windshield since mine is cracked on the passenger side, so at that point I'd just replace the windshield and have everything put on by the company that does that. But that's on the backburner at the moment lol.

Scuff the windshield where the button mounts with a scotch brite pad. This has worked for me
on several mirrors

Too little too late I know, but I swear by the ACDelco rear view mirror adhesive. Never had a mirror drop after using it. GM part no: 89021329
