Some recent fixes.

Post by spidey3479 »

I haven't posted in a long while, I have been reading and admiring though. This website is invaluable to us 3800 enthusiasts.
Anyway, here's what I've done recently, it isn't much but it's what I can afford to do, both timewise and dollarwise.
First, the easy one, had an alternator go out and it killed off the battery, too. I got about 5 years out of each one. Replaced with AC Delco alternator, Advance Gold series battery, and Gates belt.
Then replaced the ebcm with a used one from harofreak. One of the best things about this site is having access to that guy.
Had to replace both front headlights, hit a deer broadside, lucky that was the extent of the damage.
Then there is the cheapest repair, but the most interesting. I had to repair a rust hole that had developed under the battery. I filed down the edges of the hole, cut a piece of galvanized steel with my Rotozip, then sprayed some flexseal on the hole and the area around it. Then I drilled the sheet metal screws to cover the hole with the steel. Then sprayed the entire area with 3 more coats of flexseal on top of and all around the steel. I also put 3 coats of flexseal on the bottom of the hole. Don't know how long this will last, but hopefully it will last until I can get someone to weld the plate on the top and bottom. I've forgotten how to post pics, so I will have to do some reading to refresh my memory. I'll have them up asap.

Doesn't seem too bad for a car with 268K.
Up here in the heavily road salted North--we envy your minor rust issues ;)
Have to agree; This site is a great resource.
