2000 Bonnie VIN-K AC Colder on right than left

Post by dandyd »

The air from the vents is about 42-45 degrees on the passenger side, and about 55-58 degrees on the drivers side. I have checked the blend doors and they all work for the entire range of motion. What else can I check?

Check the charge. Cooler air on the passenger side often means low freon.

The charge is fine, It's 40-45 on low side, and 200-225 on the high side with ambient temps of about 90 degrees.

I agree, it's likely low on refrigerant. The compressor can adjust its displacement which can cause the pressures to look okay, despite actually being low.

All r134a charts suggest your low side is down by 5 psi, and high 50psi.

I would bet that adding one can of refrigerant makes the problem go away. The only exception would be if you know how much refrigerant is in it exactly, which would only be possible if you did a full evacuation and charge just recently.

I did, a full evacuation 2 days ago, replaced the oriface tube and a recharge with 3 12 oz. cans of 134A.

It was blowing very cold after the recharge...then today it stopped blowing cold.... I put the guages on, and I had 30 on the low side and just under 150 on the high side..... I have a leak somewhere....... I ran the lines with my 'sniffer' and only found one area of 'suspicion' but I've known that sniffer to fool me at times..... I put a shot of dye in the system and will check it day after tomorrow to see if I can locate the leak.

I will check it tomorrow, after it's had a day and 1/2 to circulate the dye. Always something..... obviously it's a slow leak because it held vaccuum at -30 for nearly an hour before I recharged it.

I found the leak! It was leaking very slowly at the O-ring in the line set just before the compressor (The dye I put in confirmed where my Sniffer was hitting on)...... Changed out the O-ring, not leaking now...... Evacuating system and will recharge within the hour.
