Transgo installed (I finished at 12:30am so it counts as today). Sooo much better now. Anyone want to rebuild my nose drive? I am sans press and pulley puller and I don't trust just any random mechanic to get it right.

I finally got it back together and jumped it, but I can't drive it yet since I have to wait for the insurance office to open tomorrow. Still need to get an alignment too.

Finally got it back after 3 weeks in the shop. This transmission guy really knows his stuff.
The new steering shaft tightened it up and can't feel any clunking or vibration.
Overall it's like I just drove it off the showroom floor. Note when I first bought this car it was on the showroom floor.

I kicked it, cussed it, and then got in and drove the crap out of it! We've developed a love/hate relationship lately. I'm tired of seeing all the lights on the dash laughing at me. I can't figure out the P0171 code, I can't figure out whether to replace the ECBM or just start replacing hubs to make the BRAKE, TRAC OFF, and ABS light go away, I can't figure out why the display on the stereo works sometimes, but sometimes does not. I'm incredibly frustrated! But it runs and drives great!

If you are frustrated it means you need a release usually the release is in the form of money out of your wallet.

I pounded on a strut bolt for a very long time and it's still not out, but I ran out of time so I'll try again some other day. Next step is cutting and drilling. If that doesn't work then I'll be replacing the knuckle and the strut altogether.

Annual service yesterday. A minor one this time, just oil & filter change and air filter.

Today I got under the 04 and reset the camber on the rear and checked for other damage that I might have missed and it all looks good. Yesterday had somebody turn in front of me and I ended up hopping a curb at 40mph and ending up in the grass.

Today I started changing spark plugs and wires, got frustrated at #2 plug wire (back left, you know, the one under the alternator) refusing to come off, so removed stock air intake to get ready for new performance intake I just bought. Stared at my slowly leaking tires knowing there is nothing I can do about it until the new parts come in. Bought some more parts for her and the wife's 09 Torrent just to make myself feel better from the lack of progress made.

I ended up taking it to a shop I trust and it took them a half hour to get it out. It's all ready to go now, tires ordered too.

So about 5 tonight, wife calls me. Another flat in the RGC. She has an innate ability to run over nails...

So I leave work, get home, get the jack, my cordless impact, torque wrench, etc, etc...

Get there get the RGC up, front wheel off, as I'm examining it, I don't see any nails or punctures. It is severely dry rotted in the tread though. This is a less than 2 year old Michelin Defender with 37k on a 90k tire. So that's another issue I will hammer out tomorrow with Discount Tire.

Anyway, I couldn't figure it out. Dropped the wheel down and found the issue... Tell me what's wrong with this;

Today I got my STS ready for its annual polish and detailing next week. I replaced the driver's carpet with new from GM, along with new driver's seat leather on the back and cushion. It seems like the other leather in the car has almost never been sat on because it's in showroom condition. I also replaced the heat/cool bag in the driver's seat back that the upholstery shop destroyed about six months ago when they replaced all my seat foam (hence why I'm doing the work myself this time). Lastly, I replaced some seat trim that the upholstery shop also managed to break.

Guy said he's seen a handful of these happen before. It IS the original, now ~10 y/o sensor. It's just a soft aluminum sleeve and these vans spew brake dust like a flame thrower...

Anyway, the one tire was obviously replaced for free under the certificates I paid for when new, the other front they pro-rated 50%, so all in all, I got two new Continental Control Contacts, installed, sensor rebuilt, etc for $114.

I am done with Michelin. This is the third set I've had that have dry rotted and worn out in less than half their warranty (in this case, they were a 90k mile tire). These were ~2 years old and had 37k on them...

I used to buy nothing but Michelin. Over the past five years I have become increasingly disappointed for much the same reason. My current STS winter tires are the Michelin X-Ice but other than that, I have Nitto Motivo's for my STS summer tires and Pirelli Cinturato P7's for the Bonneville. I really like the Pirelli's and if I can get the correct sizes, that's what I plan to purchase next for the STS.
