L36 maf sensor removal

Post by unclebubbaSE »

Hello....I'm attempting to remove my maf sensor on my '04 se L36 to clean it after replacing the filthy ac delco air filter with an aem dryflow. Would anyone happen to know what size/type of torx bit that is needed to remove the sensor?. I've heard it's refered to as a "security torx" head on the two screws, but I do not know what size of torx bit that it needs.

Any info or feedback would be appreciated, thanks!!.

You'll want a T20 torx security bit. Most auto parts stores carry a multi pack that has most size torx security bits, as well as flat head and Phillips head fittings. I think I paid $11 for the kit I have from autozone and it's more than paid for itself.

Or, if you're cheap, just cut a slot with a dremel and use a flat-blade screwdriver... or use a punch to pound down the little security pin and use a standard T20 torx.

I'm looking online and I'm finding "tamper proof" bits, I'm assuming that's the same as the "security" bit I'll need?. Because I would really like to buy a set to add to my tool collection.

They could, but then more people might try to do their own repairs.

Security torx and tamper proof are the same.

Once you get the T-20 security bit and remove the screws.
In 95 and 96 the TPS, IAC, and MAF were held in with simple Phillips head screws. Sure makes it easy to work on not having to mess with Torx.

hi, on my 2000, I got a hammer and a nail and gave that little bump a few whacks and now a regular torx will work
