I watch a lot of car reviews (specifically The Smoking Tire's one takes) and he always comments on how 90s cars need a TON of steering input before they turn in. I probably have a good 10-15 degrees of turn on my wheel before the car does anything, so I was assuming that's common as the steering components start to wear out on the car haha. But maybe that's pointing me to another problem I wasn't aware of lol.....

And yeah the sways are fantastic! The other day once my wife got used to it, she commented on how the car doesn't make her feel sick anymore. Before, it would just flop side to side on the slightest corner, which made the car not only look like a boat, but feel like a boat haha. Now it just feels like a big car.

I would say that the most you should notice is 5 degrees total between steering input response, I think 15 degrees total is how far the torsion bar in the rack (for the power steering assist) is able to turn before hitting the internal stops. So if you're sawing the wheel back and forth on a track where you're maxing out the steering assist you might feel it, but you'd feel that in any/every car with hydraulic assist in those conditions. If you've got free play in the wheel during normal driving that's not normal.

Oh yeah I definitely have free play in the wheel. You can shake I back and forth pretty good before the car does anything, but once it starts turning, it does well from there on, but it definitely isn't as tight as my dad's PAU or my wife's malibu (although a 99 car likely won't feel like a 2012 car)

Might make for an interesting future project! I can't remember, but I think there's a rag joint between the column and the ISS universals. If those check out there could be an issue with the rack hydraulic valve or gear, assuming all the tie rods, mounts, bushings and ball joints are tight.

I feel I should note that tires with a bunch of sidewall flex will require more steering input also, just switching from my Sumitomo summer tires to my dunlop wintermaxx tires make the car go from cornering on rails (kinda) to just leaning through the corner lol.

Also... The Buick has the granny steering rack... It should be a 3.1-3.2 turns lock to lock... The SSEi of the same year would have been a 2.7 turn lock to lock..

Its funny my van came with sport steering..
