All my Pontiacs

Post by Oldman »

Cleaning out the attic at my parents house and stumbled across a picture of my first Pontiac and it brought back memories of all my Pontiacs that I've owned over the years. My first was a '71 Grand Prix. What a monster! It would spin the tires as long as I kept my foot on the gas pedal! That was in 1977. My next Pontiac was a 1985 Bonneville. That was not a good year at all for Bonnevilles. Sluggish, ugly, uncomfortable and turned me off of Pontiacs for a little while. Next was a company car. I was doing sales work and had several options for my new company car. I chose a red '92 Grand Prix. That was nice. It had about a dozen buttons on the center of the steering wheel and it also had that strange rotary combination lock on the glove box. It was a great car. I actually purchased that one when it was time to get a new company car at 100,000 miles. The company had us all driving Taurus for a while, so I had suffer through some Ford days. My next opportunity to get a Pontiac, I picked a white '03 Grand Prix GT. That was a great car. Comfortable, peppy, good looking.
But, when looking at the '03 Pontiacs, I test drove the showroom model which was a silver SSEi. I swore I would own one of those one day. The company would not allow me to pay the upcharge for the SSEi package! Well, I got my SSEi. An '01 SSEi that I purchased in 2010.
I love it! I've had all the odd-ball electrical problems, sunroof issues and other problems, but I love my Bonneville. I've encouraged friends and relatives to purchase Pontiacs over the years and have never had one complain when they took my advice. I've helped my 3 sons buy Pontiacs and buicks over the years too. They bought Honda's, VW's, Isuzu's, Volvo's, Saturns and other cars that I can't remember right now over the years, but they all have fond memories of the Pontiacs, and Buicks that they have owned over the years. The two Pontiac applications I'm most proud of is putting a supercharged 3800 in a Grand Am with one of my sons and using a 3800 N/A as an inboard boat motor for another.
Yeah, we're a bunch of "Arrowheads" around here!
Hey, that's a good name for us Pontiac enthusiasts!!

The Pontiacs I've owned over the years are:
1) three 1967 Bonnevilles (at different times). My first car was a white '67 4 door that my parents gave me. It would fly with that 428!
2) 1972 Catalina Coupe (400 - 4bbl, bought for my then girl friend)
3) 1981 Trans Am (301 auto)
4) 1983 Trans Am (305 HO 5-speed)
5) 1984 Trans Am (305 HO auto, was my Mom's car)
6) 2002 Trans Am Collector Edition convertible (Bought new, sold due to financial issues).
7) 2004 GTO (Totaled by someone running a red light)
8) 2005 Bonneville GXP (Also totaled by someone running a red light)
9) 2009 Solstice GXP convertible (Sold for down payment on some land)
10) 2005 Bonneville GXP (Bought 9/29/15 with 32k miles. Optioned exactly like my totaled Bonneville GXP)

As you can see I've owned many Pontiacs and loved them all. The one that I would want back the most is the 2002 Trans Am Collector Edition convertible. That car was fun and fast, more practical than my Solstice. I hope to buy another some day. I still mourn the loss of Pontiac and hope that maybe someday the marque will return.

Just two Pontiacs here so far, a 1988 Bonneville SSE and my current 1992 SSEi, but I'm a fan and I'm sure there will be others.

I've had a real mix of different cars over the years. My first two were Japanese but its been all European and American makes since then.

Arrowheads. I like that! :)
The Pontiacs that we currently have are my baby, the 1998 Bonneville SLE and his show car, "the big dog" 1979 Trans Am.

I've got one, my SSEi RaCeCaR. It's my first and only Poncho. But I'm still a Buick guy - more news on that front coming soon.

I'm just GM. I really don't give much of a hoot which emblem is on the grill as long as it comes from Mother GM. Even back in the old days before everything was homogenized, I still felt this way. I'd rather own a GM than a four letter "f" word, or a mopar.

I've had my fair share of Pontiac's. But also Olds, Buick's, Chevy's, and now a Cadillac.
