So I plan on rebuilding my calipers, but I was wondering if you just unscrew the rear caliper piston to remove it, or if there is some other special technique?

yes, and you can also remove and strip caliper of pads and hit the brakes, the piston will pop straight out.....did this by accident on a w body..... bitch to reseat the piston..... lol
