Lug Nut replacement number

Post by DRWBRTq19 »

This may be old news to most of you, and if so I apologize.
Anyway, a little while back while doing a brake job, I discovered that someone had torqued the living crap out of one of my lug nuts.
After coming up empty handed at all of the major chains, I figured I'd eventually find em somewhere or pick some up from haro while
getting some other parts (I can't see ordering one lug being cost effective) and just left it at that.

Fast forward to today, while looking up Chevy Colorado lug nuts for a customer, I accidentally stumbled across this little gem:
Image

It's a Dorman pn#611-291.1, and while I haven't actually had a chance to put one on just yet (had to order it), it's got a thread size of M12-1.5
and a hex size of 19 mm and it looks spot on!
They don't list it for the GXP, but here is their application chart:

2003-05 Buick LeSabre
2006-11 Buick Lucerne
2003-07 Cadillac CTS
2006-11 Cadillac DTS
2005-07 Cadillac STS
2006-12 Chevrolet Colorado
2008-10 Chevrolet Malibu w/Chrome Wheels
2006-12 GMC Canyon

Anyway hope this comes in handy for someone.

yup 12 x 1.5 is the correct thread size for basically every 19mm(3/4") GM car.

I try to stick with one piece lug nuts though as much as I can. Working in a tire shop has made me hate seeing those 2 piece lug nuts.

I was going to say, GM lugs, outside of trucks, is all the same thread, pitch, etc. You can also get the outside threaded style of GM lugs that allow you to change the color of the decorative cap you want to go with your wheels instead of just being isolated to the all in one lug/decorative cap.

With the outside threaded lugs GM uses (same stud threading as above), you can use these style caps;

Silver lugnut caps

Black lugnut caps

Or the OEM Bonneville GXP psuedo chromers

While I agree (I hate the capped design and also the plastic cap style), I love the look of the stockers...
So unless I can find a one piece that looks the same I'm stuck with em.

These look like they'd look good inside the 17" SLE chromies

Any reason to suggest they wouldn't fit?

Nope. If the wheels I think you're talking about are what you have, it should fit spot on, which is what Drew was pointing out.

I had to deal with those 2-piece lugs on a trailer of ours a few years ago on the side of the road, and I wanted to kill someone. They had been massively over-torqued and got rusty, and it took forever to get them off, even with a 1/2" Cordless Impact. Never again. Either 1-piece chrome, or the plastic cover style. That trailer now sports open-ended lugs on all 4 wheels, so it's really easy to douse the whole thing with penetrating oil when needed.
Bye Bye:

So Lane, are the lug nuts I posted not the OE ones?

Go to the link and you will find the lug nut numbers. The original GXP lug nuts are the double thread with the stainless caps. Other members don't seem to like them, but I have them on my GXP...but I like everything stock

Well that is interesting, I've not actually paid close attention to other GXP lug nuts, so I just assumed they were stock... guess I need to change my title.

The GXP ones look similar to what you posted as they use a thin steel decorative cap. But they use the outside threaded lugs I mentioned.

The one you posted is more or less killing two birds in one stone, if you follow me. Plus, it looks to be a little shinier than the OEM decorative cap. So I would say purchase what you want for the "look".

I went with the black caps like I posted above, because I wanted to draw the eye to the center "well" area of the wheel as it rotated. By putting the black caps on, it gives more depth or definition. It was purely a personal choice.
