Unknown Part

Post by DriftKid »

I have a Bonneville 1995 SSEI and an currently in the middle of an engine swap. I am putting in an l67 and was about to put it in when I found a part I think goes to the new engine, but have absolutely no idea where it goes.

I think its a heat shield. if it is i don't know ware it goes. in all honesty it might not go to this car. I'd rather not find out the hard way.

Yes its a heat shield, but I think you are correct that it doesn't go with this car. I haven't seen one like that before.

Is that the one that goes between the throttle/cruise cables and the exhaust crossover pipe?

That shield goes on the drivers side over the crossover near the rear drivers side,J Wicoff nailed it.One of the bolts goes between the throttle body and intake.

The problem is usually not limited to the subframe bolts themselves---typically, the road salts used in wintertime work their way between the bushings and the subframe, and rot out the mounting holes.
The rest of the subframe will look just fine.
You will only see the damage if you remove the bushings and look.

On my car the front 2 bushings' holes were fine---while the 4 rear bushing holes rotted out badly.
You don't want to be driving along when you discover the problem!

They are supposed to be form fitted to the shape of the bushing and not round.
This is a huge problem in states where the roads are salted---which includes Mass.

If you have been blessed with a non-rotting subframe , then you can get the bolts here http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/results.cf ... r=11561577, and maybe at a local dealership.
The GM part number is 11561577.
