First, the transmission is hunting quite a bit - staying in lower gears longer than normal. It doesn't seem to be slipping, but .. having had a Grand Prix GTP with a 4T65E tranny that chewed itself to death, I'm nervous.
The more disturbing thing for me is that the HVAC (which is always ALWAYS left on "Auto") is now taking 15 to 20 seconds (seems like forever in the blistering Houston heat) to start to blow air at all, and then another 5 to 10 seconds to figure out what it wants to do.
Naturally, my guests in the car figure that I haven't turned the thing on, and I have to slap back their grabby little fingers when they try to turn the system on, or adjust the temperature.
Has anyone had similar issues with their 04/05 GXP? If so, how was it resolved (i.e., give me a clue what to do .. is this a trip to the dealer with my service contract in hand?)

My GXP has always taken its time figuring out what to do when the car is first started and the climate control is set to auto. Maybe current draw protection on startup? Seems to be a longer duration for the fan to max when the A/C is needed, I would consider your times stated as normal operation. Maybe the heat makes it seem longer
. As for the tranny, my first thought would be to unbolt the battery cable for a minute or so to let the engine and tranny control modules reset and let them go through their "learn procedure" again. Use smooth acceleration and let the car shift itself and see if the problem resolves itself. The 4T80E is a very dependable tranny, I've heard of few problems with it. Only two in the old forum, both leaking lines, I asume you already checked the fluid level. One post the line was not replaced right after other work was performed (Obis), the other a unspecified leak (ddalder) I myself have pounded the dog snot out of mine and it works flawlessly with 32k on the odometer.

Your hard shifts on the tranny sound exactly like what I was having. My speed sensor had to be replaced. I forgot what it cost but it wasn't that much. You may want to have that checked. Good luck.

I'm at 54,000 hard drivin miles and I haven't experienced any transmission issues yet!
My HVAC system has never done what yours is doing and mine is an '04, but mind you I live in Ohio. So I'm sure it doesn't get as hot as it does down there.
I don't know what to tell you besides its a GREAT car and don't let it go!!!!
