Aftermarket part...

Post by MajorsSerj »

Does anyone know or can suggest where I can find an Aftermarket part, for OEM # 25140856 which is for the ACDelco - Turn Signal / Combination Lever for a 1997 Bonneville SE?

I have tried numerous sites such as 1aauto, rockauto, oreilyauto, autozone, adavnceautoparts, ebay, and amazon.

Thank you for your time.

I'm confused by your request because Rockauto shows that they have , in stock, both an ACDelco 25140856 and
AIRTEX / WELLS Part # 1S2013

If you're looking for other manufacturers besides these 2, there simply may not be any others.
For example, Dorman and Standard do not make a replacement.
The car is now 18 years old, so these may be your only 2 choices.

It should be Dorman part number 49286. It can be found in the help section at most parts stores.

If they don't stock it then they can order it.

Dorman says that 49286 is only for Pontiac 1990-84

It's the same one and should work the same as the original one. There is always the junkyard, too.

I'm sorry for the confusion. I was just asking to find the aftermarket part (if there was one, probably Dorman) to the OEM # 25140856, however it just seems it is only being made by AC Delco/Airtex

Thank you for your response MKMike

They are very similar, however the connector for the (which I think is to control Cruise Control) is not the same.

I unfortunately work 7 days a week between two jobs so going to the junkyard is not an option right now, but thank you. I am just now wondering if it's indeed the Lever/Switch I need, or the internal part that the Lever switch connects to and controls the speed and on/off of the wipers.

Thank you haro1225

So at first I thought the lever had broke on me (therefore the wipers are stuck on high setting which resulted in having to pull the fuse) and there was no more "play" to it, and If I tried to switch from Off to any speed setting, it would be loose/free and just keep spinning. It comes out freely, but I have a feeling it's the internal part that needs to be replaced or has a broken part. If I were to replace this lever (the more I examine it, in the part it attaches to) the more I think it's not the lever, but whatever the black piece is (2nd Picture)

That's the turn signal/ wiper switch. Wells part number SW887. The steering wheel needs to be removed to change that one.

So there wouldn't be any other way around it? The Any temporary type of fix to at least get the wipers to turn off? I'm now guessing I won't need the lever after all if that's the case

You could pull the fuse.

I've already pulled the fuse for the time being. I was just hoping for another type of temp. fix. I am going to see if a friend and I can replace the part ourselves, before going to my mechanic who does side jobs.

The trouble with doing this job is that you have to disable the airbag, so you don't hurt yourself and/or make the task much more expensive.
You should find this writeup very helpful to gauge whether or not you have the tools and skills for the task BUT some of the steps are wrong, as it was a non-airbag model that was being worked on ---the pad does not pry off--it's held by torx screws AND you ABSOLUTELY MUST disable the air bag before doing anything.http://www.pontiacbonnevilleclub.com/fo ... c6944.html

Thank for the info/how-to! After reviewing and seeing the detail involved in this repair, I have decided not to do the work myself, and rather will let a certified mechanic fix it. Thanks again for all of your input as well as everyone else's.
