replace fog lights 2001 ssei

Post by RedBird94 »

I will pick this car up tomorrow. From my past experience with pontiac factory "fog" lamps they do little to nothing. On my Trans Am I replaced them with 100w halogen driving lights. Eventually putting them on their own switch so I could use with Hi or Lo beams. I'm sure some of you have done this. I would like to see what you used and how they look. Some of the new LED driving lights are pretty good. That's what I was thinking of using

hi, I have the 2000 SSEi and the fog/driving lights work well -- also was same on my 96 SSEi-- see if it suits your purpose before messing with electrical
the fog lights have own button on far left of bottom dash

You will be blinding everybody. If you want more light, run HIRs in the low beams, or do a retrofit.

The fog lights on most modern cars are decorative.

1st time out after dark tonight. The headlights seem pretty good, as I expected the fog lights do almost nothing. As someone mentioned, about blinding people, that is simply an aiming issue. I have run pro rally with multiple 500k candle power long range driving lights. We're talking lights with a 5 mile reflective range. Not looking for anything that extreme, although I have used those on the street for a long time. They are purely rural long range lights. A good pair of 100w halogen driving lights would work well. Keep them aimed correctly and it's not a problem. Has anyone upgraded these lights?

I would like to replace mine also. But want something with a glass lens rather than plastic and a little brighter than stock. Any aftermarket lamp.

I'm using these on my car.

They require some work modifying the bracket, and aiming them properly. They are also a bit smaller than original. I seldom run my fogs, however. The HIR headlights that I put in do a great job of lighting up the road.

I changed my fog light lamps to yellow. Seemed to help considerable when it's foggy, but you can't tell a thing about them if it's not foggy. - BC
