Recently in my 95 Bonneville SSE (not supercharged) my battery died. I was stupid and left my interior lights on.
I found out on my way to work, which made me late. To add insult to injury, I pulled out my jumper cables, and one of the clamps for the positive wire came off, leaving just wire.
So here I am left with a dead battery, and 3/4s of a jumper cable.
I said screw it and got help jumping it. While somebody cranked my car, I took one for the team and held the loose wires from the broken clamp onto my positive battery terminal.
Of course it started smoking and sparking, but after a few attempts, I got the car running.
When I got down the road, I noticed the "Check Engine" light was on. I pulled over and whipped out my Actron CP9145 scanner (reads OBD1.5 codes. Best $60 I've spent on this car)
The codes I read were:
P0640: Quad Driver Module: QDM 1 Fault
P0670: Quad Driver Mudule: QDM 4 Fault
P0406: Linear EGR Pintle Position: Position Error
Last time I had any QDM codes, I had a blown fuse. I checked my fuses and had one blown. The label for it was "Cruise Control/ Misc. Engine ".
It's a 15 mini fuse. It's on the fuse panel under the glovebox.
I replaced it and turned the car on (not starting it) and it blew again. Since I've had problems with my computer in this car and this is like the 5th one the car has eaten, I replaced it with my spare PCM, turned the car on, and blew a fuse.
Then I unplugged the cruise control switch completely and tried again. It blew the fuse again.
I honestly have no idea what keeps causing this fuse to blow, but apparently it also runs to the EGR, which was replaced about 4 months ago.
All the issues started when I jumped the car with a faulty jumper cable. I'm thinking I fused some internal electronics, but in what, I don't know.
My only lead is the QDM 1 and 4 codes. What electronics get connected to both? Or did I fuse metal inside more than 1 thing? I've looked at the wiring harness, and everything seems fine.
I really really hate electrical problems.
Also, sorry about the wall of text. But you know, the more details the better, but the less likely people are to read it all.
