Afternoon fellas,
Just starting a new thread because it appears frowned apon if you bring up such an old thread? lol
I just read over a thread about disabling the DRLs on 2000 - 2004 cars, but i didnt know if the procedure applied to pre-2000 cars as well?
Also, and im sure it does just making sure, does this apply to all "H-body" (i think thats what these are, im a dodge guy so bare with me lol) cars? Bonnevilles, cutlesses, LeSabres, Park Avenues.... etc.
My LeSabre is bright white if you cant see it coming maybe you shouldnt be on the road.... DRLs are rediculous!
Thanks fellas,
Matt

Actually, DRL's are a good idea and have saved me a couple of times. Just because your car is white doesn't mean it's easy to see in all conditions. Oh, I believe the word you were trying to use is "ridiculous".

Re: Disable the DRL on pre-2000 model cars
ddalder, lol yeah "ridiculous" thank you! spelling was never my strong point. No i know they have there place... and i know my car being white is very hard to see when its raining. (as are most cars that are lightly or very dark colored) I dont know i guess im just a little old fashioned. What i dislike about daytime running lights are those individuals whom have DRLs but do not have automatic headlights. So when they are driving to work at 445 and 5 am like i am they dont have any tail lights so it makes them very difficult to see, and because they only have half the out put its not extremely noticeable that they have headlights on, but because they can see, and their headlights are "technically" ON... i guess they figure all of there lights are on. Day time running lights should be a full car thing, front and rear, because alot of ignorant people dont understand that they have to turn there lights on at night. Or if a car is equiped with DRLs they should be standard with Auto headlamps.
I personally just dont like the look of them, and find them pointless. We have been driving since the late 1800's with out them, why all of a sudden do we need them now?
I didnt mean to go on a rant, i would like to know how to turn them off. I appoligise.

Re: Disable the DRL on pre-2000 model cars
I understand, and one of my big annoyances are people that don't turn on their lights at night. I'm almost at the point where I believe it should be legislated that people must write an exam on the basic functions of a vehicle before they are allowed to make a purchase. Yes, some people are just that clueless!
I spend a lot of time on the roads, much of it with emergency lights and a siren on and you may be surprised how many people still don't see us. All of a sudden their vehicle jerks off to the side of the road or they slam on the brakes suddenly as soon as they become aware of us. I could go on for paragraphs with horror stories.
Times that DRL's have saved my butt are when I'm trying to turn onto a road from a side street, there are vehicles parked making it difficult to see traffic and then a flash of a DRL passing between two of the parked cars. Looking around things can sometimes blend together but periodically you may pick-up that quick flash in your peripheral vision.

Oh, and yes, for the cost of fully automatic headlamps they should be on all vehicles.

Once upon a time, the only vehicles with their headlamps or were motorcycles and emergency vehicles.
I think DRL's make motorcycles and emergency vehicles less visible. IMHO

There should be a resistor type thing inside the left fender. It's white iirc, unplug it and no more DRLs. If you have auto headlights at night they will still work normally.
