Front Bumper

Post by nconti13 »

Hey guys, probably a pretty stupid question, bare with me as I don't really know much about body/paint work.

So inevitably where I drive into the city for school almost every day now, the Bonneville has gotten some more scratches and minor front bumper cracking than I would like... Is it easy enough to repair the front bumper where its plastic? Is it something I could tackle by myself or would I be better having the guys down at the local body shop tackle it?

Do you have a picture of the damage? It all depends. You can plastic weld it, I think Mattstrike has done that before on plastic bumpers. You don't really want to use Bondo, since the bumper flexes a lot.

If it is just the paint cracked then it will have to be repainted to fix it, no amount of polishing will fix that. If the bumper itself is cracked then it will have to be plastic welded then repainted to repair.

I'll try to snap a couple pictures today. Paint is surprisingly fine, just a couple of cracks Id like to fix. I will definitely look into plastic welding, I've never even heard of the best process before! Definitely appreciate the input!

So I've been extremely busy the last week or so, so sorry that I haven't had a chance to update with pictures. Here's the extent of the damage though. From afar its not super noticeable, but it bugs me nonetheless. Does it seem like looking into getting it plastic welded would still be the best solution?

Definitely will need plastic welded and then new paint.

More then likely your best bet will be just finding another bumper for it though the same color.

I'll have to talk to my body guy about it after I get out of school for the semester. In the case that he cant do anything about it for a good price, does Andrew still part out cars on his Bonnevilles Unlimited website?
