Rescued a GXP
Re: Rescued a GXP
I checked GMpartsdirect and they show the same spring part #s for All Bonnevilles. GXP is no different.

Re: Rescued a GXP
The quick struts, as they are called, are a popular choice, as they come with the replacement springs already installed, but are never the correct ride height.
This may also explain the ride you are describing, as the GXP from the factory has a very tight and responsive feel compared to the SLE.

Good to know... Maybe I will be getting custom springs after all! I forgot about how they now sell the overall assembly. Still need the gxp spring part #'s though.

Re: Rescued a GXP
I just had my front end apart for the new rotors but I didn't notice a part number on my springs. A lot of times there's a tag or a stamp. I can check again this weekend...666ws6 wrote:Good to know... Maybe I will be getting custom springs after all! I forgot about how they now sell the overall assembly. Re: Rescued a GXP
Thx, appreciate it. I checked around more and seems like the gxp FE5 code may be other parts improved, but not shocks/springs.

Re: Rescued a GXP
I'm pretty sure it is springs/struts too. My car sits lower than ANY Bonneville I've parked near. They say it's 1.5 inches lower and I don't know how they'd be able to do that without different springs/struts...
Someone else on hear may be able to attest to that for me.

Re: Rescued a GXP
I have found for Bonneville GXP's, GMPD isn't always right. Somehow they think that the GXP is just an SSEi or other Bonneville.
For struts, I am coming up with 2 GM Part numbers;
22064781 I believe this is for the FE2 "softride" setup. Which is what GMPD has listed for both SLE and GXP
19172172 I believe this is the FE5 setup. While I can't find any RPO associated with it, it does note "performance"
Springs I do believe are the same though as I come up with both 22197594 and 19161296 for front springs for both models. Those numbers may be interchangable between GM part #'s and and AC Delco part #'s.
The only way to get the definitive answer is to call or stop by a GM parts department, with your VIN#, and it'll come up correct. I keep running into this with the Suburban as their were so many chassis setup options and exhaust options and sh*t. The number I would've purchased on GMPD or Rock Auto is the incorrect number for another setup. So I would've gotten the wrong part.

Re: Rescued a GXP
Great! Thanks guys! At the moment I needed the spring numbers for CSC to start.
Anyone install any good aftermarket shocks/struts for these.... I haven't found yet. If I do springs, may as well install some better damping units.
This is why I love my trans am so much.... Always lots of perf parts around! Like Koni shocks!

Re: Rescued a GXP
I'll try not to muddy up the waters that Lane put down, as he will understand that I work at a GM dealer.
The GXP DOES have specific front springs and struts.
Front spring P/N for FE5, year model 2004-2005 - 22197599 (Perf & Handling SUSP, FE5)
Front strut P/N for FE5. year model 2004-2005 - 19180217 (Perf & Handling SUSP, FE5)
As we well know, the struts are discontinued through GM.
But it looks like the front springs are still available.
The NON-FE5 front spring P/N, model year 2000- 2005 - 22197594
The NON-FE5 front strut P/N, model year 2000- 2005 - 22064781 (soft ride, (FE1), ride & handling, (FE2)
I had the parts counter guy use my 2005 GXP VIN to looks this info up.

I wasn't going to volunteer you, but figured you'd be able to go in and get the most up to date numbers.

For what it is worth...see the below from a part supplier that provided a detailed explanation of the GXP struts. Just for laughs...part # 22064782 (Premium strut) are $550.00 a side...
Ok. Here is information I found from my local parts man. Your serial number shows up that 19172172 / AC Delco 503-589 could be used, It is a Standard Strut: 19294314 / AC Delco 903-020 can also be used that is a Premium Strut. I ask him to chase 22064781 (AC Delco 506-254) that I have, he found it is a Standard Strut and 22064782 (AC Delco 589-128) is a Premium Strut and tracking them down they are both Cadillac numbers, but they could also be used for 2005 GPX. However any of these would probably need to be used in pairs. I have no way of knowing the difference between Standard and Premium, except photos I did find of the Premium, came with the spring and top plate as part of the strut. I have found in the past with the Cadillac parts I have, there are some items that have Cadillac parts numbers that are the same as the other GM lines that have another parts number, for the same part. I would say this is due to Cadillac marketing values. I know you are trying to save money, but unless you could take all these AC Delco parts numbers to a good AC Delco dealer in your area that you could trust, and see what the difference is, I would just buy one or the other of the Premium Strut numbers, however, they may be Premium just because they are more complete from GM AC Delco.

Re: Rescued a GXP
AC Delco and OE GM are NOT the same.
Different parts and different part numbers.
If you want exactly what came on the car from the factory, get the OE GM parts, as the AC Delco parts are just service replacement parts....close, but not exactly THE SAME.
The part numbers I listed are OE GM.

Any chances for a rear spring part # for the FE5? I think I have these on my car now, but need the # again for CSC to make a lower spring. THX!1tinindian wrote:The rear shocks are :666ws6 wrote:Leon, thanks, that is great! How about the rears... enlighten us there?

Re: Rescued a GXP
Cool cool cool! Thx so much!
The major leak on my GXP turned out to be the high pressure power steering hose, so not too bad. Also had a leaking intake gasket. I paid the shop to just do it as I'm pressed for time at the moment.
Andrew has hooked me up with a set of front GXP springs too!

Re: Rescued a GXP
The Premium strut you are referencing (P/N 22064782) will not work with the GXP. It is a LF strut for the Cadillac equipped with magnetic ride control (also why it prices out at $550). P/N 22064781 may be a possibility but it's listed as 'Soft-Ride' suspension so not the same as the original GXP part either.DCMain wrote:For what it is worth...see the below from a part supplier that provided a detailed explanation of the GXP struts.
