2000 SSEI muffler delete
2000 SSEI muffler delete
I understand the pro's and con's of the muffler delete.. but i was wondering if i replace only the muffler and replace it with a straight pipe, how will it sound? It will obviously be loud, but will it sound good?? Has anyone personally heard a car with this set-up?

Re: 2000 SSEI muffler delete
Welcome.
It will be loud and sound pretty bad. These 3800 motors are known to sound pretty awful. You can put on some aftermarket mufflers to make it a little bit louder. I have Flowmaster 44s myself. Still sounds very poopy above 3,000 RPM. Straight pipes would likely also sound raspy. I wouldn't do it. And especially don't touch the factory res!

I appreciate the input, i kinda figured as much..i had a '94 camaro w/ the 3.4 liter v6 it had a flowmaster single input, dual output muffler and it didnt sound great in the higher RPM's either.
I guess ill have to buy a new muffler
in the past 2 weeks ive replaced the trans mounts, motor mounts(Before i saw the "boat roller" thread), power steering pump. a/c compressor, a/c condenser, radiator, rotors & pads, front struts, tires and an alignment....ill have a new car soon!

If you want a good sounding SSEi, bet a set of these Hooker Headers Aero Chamber Mufflers

I ran them and they sound great, deep low tone and will not change tone over the years because there is nothing to burn out.
If your still on the stock pipes I would use the 2 1/4" in/out muffler's
