2000 ssei battery voltage

Post by 2000bonnieSSEi »

The battery voltage meter on my car is fluctuating from 11.1 volts to 14.8, my lights dims while driving and the interior lights do the same, the heater slows down as well, never done this before, could it be the battery needs to be replaced?

Before you do anything, check that the leads on the battery are tight.

If they are and you still have problems, take the car to an Advance or Autozone to get the electrical system tested. It's free and will tell you whether the issue lies in the battery or the alternator.

You were probably already leaking coolant and it was low, which would explain
the heat issue. Hopefully it is just a hose if the coolant is all over the engine
compartment. A failed LIM gasket would be a worse problem, if the coolant
was leaking into the combustion chambers.

Maybe the electrical issue is a bad ground. Check the battery ground to the
back seat metal floor. They sometimes come loose or rust. If you have the
battery and alternator tested at a shop, make sure you watch or look at the
test results. Some will tell you bull just to sell you something new.

For the coolant, check your coolant elbows. They are by the tensioner.

Battery problem has gone away, the coolant issue was fixed, the plastic tubes that run to the intake cracked so replaced those an put new elbows on as well

Did you have them put in the updated aluminum design for the elbows?

Have an Autozone or Advance check your electrical system anyways, it is free.
