dimmer switch issues

Post by siamese7117 »

I have a 95 bonneville with the twilight sentinel. A few days ago my dash, center console, and radio lights started acting up. My stereo lights up the display just fine but when I turn on my headlights or the sentinel does it for me the stereo goes blank and my dash steering wheel and center console don't light up. I checked all my fuses and they are all fine. I was hoping someone may have had this issue before and may be able to help. I believe its the switch itself but wanted some opinions before replacing it for no reason. Thanks

sounds like bigger issue- or just loose connector at bulkhead. i had some problems when i replaced my dimmer sw.
it was my own fault, had attached the bulkhead loose after connecting new dimmer switch wires to that bulkhead. its located at drivers side footwell, main fuse center at firewall if i recall right...
sorry i´m from europe-expressions and understanding varies

I'm guessing, but it's probably the headlight switch. It controls the brightness/dimming of the console/dash lights, headlights, and twilight sentinel. When it went out on my '92 it was having issues very similar to your's. - BC

1993 B here. I've got Twilight Sentinal too, but I never use it. My headlight switch has had some kind of issue since I bought the car. If I rotate the switch to adjust the brightness, my dash panel will flicker on and off, headlights unaffected. It seems like a faulty switch, but since just slightly turning the knob fixes the issue, I never bothered to replace the switch. Sounds like a similar issue, and from what I know, these years were known to have a buggy switch.

I had problems with my dash lights and I replaced the switch with one
from the junkyard. I pulled one out of a '97 that fit my '95.
I could see the burn marks on the switch housing where it was shorting
out internally.
It cost $5 and about 45 minutes to swap.
