While the DIC is certainly optimistic in many GM vehicles, the fact of the matter is the motor is still probably returning great fuel economy. The GM pushrod V6s, where in 90* or 60* guise, were always great at nailing down great fuel economy numbers for their size and displacement on the open road.

I topped off the tank today and calculated the mileage manually. It came out to 23.1 vs 23.7 on the DIC. I'd say 0.6 mpg is definitely within a reasonable margin of error.
