p0442 evap line replacement

I'm going to replace the line going from the engine bay to the evap canister in the rear of the vehicle. Since it is just a vac line would it be safe to use vacuum hose alone with a steel line?

Yes it's rusted along with a p0442 code. So I was going to replace the line along with the valve

mines throwing the same code. did you diagnose the bad valve? if so how? but then again which one are you talking about? lol the purge or the vent? ill to check the line on my car.

i cleaned my purge valve cause i just didnt want to buy a new one without knowing if was actually bad or not and replaced the vacuum line on it.. it slowed the rate it which the code came back.

I think the vent valve which is located on the canister. Mines is in the rear. I was just going to go to the by and swap out the valve to see if it corrects the problem

Well I found out that a regular vacuum line won't last from the fuel vapors and such so its best to use fuel hose.

oh yeah. duh lol the vent valve. i didnt put 2 and 2 together. mines in the same area. i know the fuel line by the filter is pretty rusty but while i was down there changine that i didnt think to check the evap stuff down there...

i was thinking of trying to borrow or buy a little vacuum pump, like a mityvac, and checking the vacuum. My pontiac manual says the vent valve is normally open. id assume if i put the vac on the line going to the purge valve and created vacuum and it leaked that would mean either the evap canister, line, or gas cap is bad. i guess i could try and clamp the line after the vent valve and the try clamping the line after the canister. and check them one by one.

and its possibly to check is if the purge valve is bad because its a normally closed valve. if there is a leak with the vacuum pump.

do you think this could work?
