2000 bonne trans issue, please help!

Post by pontiacfreak142 »

The car is a 2000 base model. The original trans blew about a year ago, so we just got one from a junk yard to put in. The trans worked great with the exception of the hard upshifts, although it was not constant, usually when warmed up.

Just the other day, my wife was driving it on the freeway, and had no issues till she got off and sat at a stop light. She heard no noises, the car just didnt move when she hit the gas. She immediately called me and i had her try it down in 3rd, still nothing. After having her put it down in 2nd, she said it would move, so she got it off the street and parked.

I Met up with her and took it for a drive. Again, got it in gear by going to 2nd, but first gear seemed to slip bad. Slowly got it going though and it shifted to 2nd, which didnt seem to bad. After getting it up to about 40 mph, i bumped it up to 3rd to see if it would do anything, and it did shift, i so i again bumped it up and it shifted to 4th. Uppon coming to a stop again though, a whole lot of neutral.

Took it to my dads shop today to pull codes and got P0730 and p1811, one of which said incorrect gear ratio. Anyone have any ideas? Or should i just look for another trans?

Sounds like you put the trans in from the wrong car. Depending on the trim and options, there are a couple of different final drive rations. SEs got 2.62s, SLEs got 3.05s, and SSEis got 2.93s.

I was told it took the 2.93. It seems to have done just fine over the last year minus the hard shifts when i got warm

Sounds like intermedit clutch pack is gone. Just did my trans that's what it was, bad seals in that & 3rd piston.

Also when I got it had hard shift, changed pressure control switch. Which got rid of hard shift but revealed slipping clutch. When took it apart 3 out of four friction's where gone in that pack. You propbly been running with a couple gone for a year. Likely gone now & will tear up the bands next from manual shift.

Think it did much damage even though it really hasnt been drivin? Got it home and then to a shop, pretty much an easy strait shot cruise, didnt have to shift much
