Stereo lights out - should I fix or replace

This is your place for alarms, remote starters, to brag about your system, exaggerate your db levels, or simply ask questions for stock or aftermarket audio. No Flames! (except from roasted amps)

Stereo lights out - should I fix or replace

Post by jargarner »

I have a 2005 Bonneville GXP and my stereo tuner lights are down from three to one.
I hear that if I swap out the stereo for after market I risk loosing my HUD - is that true?
Also I can't buy a stock replacement off ebay to junk yard cause they need to be unlocked?
Also... How would I go about fixing the lights on the original stock radio?
Thanks

You won't lose your HUD going aftermarket, but you will lose the door chime and steering wheel controls unless you use the right adapter.

You can buy a replacement, just have to take it to the dealer or someone with a Tech 2 scanner to set it up for you, not sure what the cost would be.

I say if you can solder then you can replace the bulbs, total cost there is less then $10 if you already have the soldering stuff.

From the Common Problems & Solutions article I wrote:
If you do go aftermarket, you will lose the radio information in the HUD, but not the speedo.
