Can't get a scanner to communicate

So I went to Autozone a few months back and was able to successfully get a scanner talking to my car. I went back a few weeks later and the same scanner would no longer communicate with my car. It acted as if it wasn't even hooked up. Fast forward to now where I broke down and finally bought a replacement for my old Autoxray (same model that I know works/worked on the car in the past) and it won't register that it's connected either.

Is there a dedicated fuse for the OBD port on the 1992 SSEi that could be blown? Any other ideas on a possible cause?

Note: I can still use the paperclip trick to pull codes, so those two connections are still good.

I can't help you, as mine has the same problem.
My 95 will not communicate with my scanner.
In my case it is not the OBD1.5 issue, I have a scanner
that I know works with a 95 because I did another 95 with it.
I also took the car to a shop and that tech's $1500 Snap-on scanner
could not read it, and he had used it on my car some years ago.

I don't know what the issue is with mine or yours.
I know my Traction Control is out and the data link goes through
the Traction control module, but that is just a guess with mine.

Maybe someone will have some ideas of things to check, so
this will give the post a bump.

I can tell you from personal experience that since all the parts stores had to return their old DTC scanners for the latest and greatest DTC scanners, they will not communicate with my '92 SSE. Before they did the DTC scanner "upgrade", everything worked fine with the DTC scanners. You have to have OBD II. Even the documentation says it will work with some GM OBD 1.5, but they won't mine, even though it says it will. - BC

My issue is that scanners that once did communicate no longer will. This leads me to believe the problem is with the car, not three scanners (two of which are identical models that are older).

I would probably test the continuity of the pins at the plug to see if thats the problem. After that, trace the wiring to the ECM to check for a break somewere.

I checked the continuity of the data stream pin to the ground and it had about the same resistance compared to the other pin used to jump to the ground when doing the paperclip code-pulling thing.

I'm not sure how much resistance it should have to the ground though.
